Endurance
Endurance is ‘the ability to withstand hardship or adversity.’ It is usually accomplished over a period of time. The words that come to mind when we think about endurance are stamina, performance, sustainability, and energy.
We definitely need energy to be physically able to achieve our goals. Sustainability is the ability to keep going even when it does not look like we are going to make it. Stamina and performance are the durability to pace ourselves in accomplishing what we have set out to do. We cannot worry about what everybody else is doing. We have to concentrate on the end results.
To endure something is to overcome the adversity of it. An athlete and a soldier have to plan for a race or an assignment physically and mentally. They have to consume the right nutrition, stay hydrated, receive the right strategy, and stick with the plan unless instructed otherwise.
Endurance is like being in a race and our attention is on winning and making it to the finish line. Our second wind has to kick in sometimes to keep us encouraged. Whether it is a 100-yard dash or a marathon, we become so elated to make it to the end. I know many of you may say it feels so much better to win. I agree, but to make it to the end is just as gratifying.
There may be obstacles, deterrents, naysayers on the sidelines but we have to keep our eyes on the prize. We cannot lose focus and allow anyone or anything to block our path or keep us from accomplishing our goal. Stay in the race, endurance is ours.
“The race is not to the swift, Nor the battle to the strong, Nor bread to the wise, Nor riches to men of understanding, Nor favor to men of skill; But time and chance happen to them all.” Ecclesiastes 9:11.
Stay focused and you will make it to the finish line.
